Budget-constrained design and cost coordination

Compare structural, facade, and construction choices under a defined investment ceiling. This Skill develops three alternatives with cost estimates and rendering descriptions; a suitable base image can also support renderings.
Prepare materials
Provide city, total floor area, above- and below-ground areas, height or stories, and an explicit investment limit. State tax treatment, included cost categories, and non-negotiable standards. Attach an existing massing image or sketch if available.
“Make it cheaper” is not a defined budget constraint. Confirm the ceiling and included costs before comparing alternatives.
Compare alternatives
- Select this Skill, attach project data and an optional base image, and define the budget scope.
- Check areas, cost categories, and constraints; correct missing data or misallocated underground area first.
- Compare structure, materials, and cost allocation across three alternatives. Identify design priorities worth protecting.
- Use renderings when a relevant base image exists; otherwise start with estimates and descriptions.
For example: “Compare three options within the investment limit. Explain facade tradeoffs and separate construction, other costs, and contingency.”
Review and refine
Use the same area basis and cost scope for all options. Match rendered materials to the descriptions and estimates. Request region, date, or assumptions for unsupported unit rates.
Refine a selected option by specifying what to preserve and where to reduce cost. For a settled design, see Construction cost estimation workflow.
These estimates support comparison; they are not supplier quotations or proof that the real project will meet budget when essential cost information is missing.
