Renovation design workflow

Skill manualsReview draft

On this page

Explore renovation imagery from photographs of an existing building, street, or space. Describe goals or supply references, then optionally produce before/after comparisons and explanations.

Prepare materials

Provide a complete, clear base image. State new uses, retained elements, and permitted changes. Label references by purpose, such as facade materials or entrance depth.

Develop the renovation

  1. Select this Skill and define the task: “Convert this factory into a community space while retaining the roof outline and main structure.”
  2. Explain style, materials, and use in text or identify which parts each reference informs. Keep different reference directions distinct.
  3. Check retention constraints before overall atmosphere. Identify the exact source location of inappropriate changes.
  4. Select a proposal, then decide whether to add before/after comparisons and diagrams of changed areas, materials, and design moves.
  5. For local revisions, reference the selected result and specify both changed and retained areas.

Review the explanation

Comparisons should make changes clear, and diagrams must agree with renderings. Compare options from the same existing-condition base and viewpoint.

Photographs do not fully establish structure, utilities, dimensions, or damage. New elements and materials need development from actual information; a rendering is not an engineering feasibility check. For unchanged structure with improved lighting and texture, provide the base image and rendering requirements in main/Auto mode and request “detail render”; for comparison, see Design option comparison.
